Make Poverty History
When one of the greatest bands ever, come together after a two decade long split and perform together, you better realize that the cause is something special. Pink Floyd [ read kickass] came together and performed at the Live 8 concert. 4 songs, 4 masterful, soul searching, nerve tingling, breathtaking, dumbfounding, eyecatching masterpieces reaffirming their status as the Globe's Greatest set of musicians ever to form a band. The band members buried their differences and played together at the Live 8 concerts past weekend. For those who missed it [ including today's reruns], go here

Live 8 is a huge effort on the part of these musicians to pressurize the G-8 to make poverty history in Africa. If you are one one among those who believe that poverty has no place in this world, please take time and show your solidarity at Live 8 website. If you are one of those cynics like the famous "Cho" Ramaswamy who just sits there in a cool comfy air conditioned room and waxes elonquently about what needs to be done rather than doing it, please read on what the concerts accomplished nearly 20 years back in 1985 here

Rather than sitting there and hogging resources, do your bit for this world.

Sudharshan,

I would like to differ with you.

1. "Cho sits in cool air conditioned room." 100% true. But I don't think that members of the bands that played in the concerts sleep on hard floors on straw mats, wear rags and eat off the throw aways of others.

2. "Cho talks about stuff that needs to be done instead of doing it." In the case of these musicians, they croon into a microphone in front of a million people instead of actually going to Africa and doing something about the poverty.

So, if Cho is bad, so are Pink Floyd and vice versa. Musicians leverage their popularity for a good cause. The paying public that go to the concerts actually shell out the bucks that actually makes up the aid collected. Similarly, Cho leverages his popularity (film and journalistic) to write about stuff happening in the society. He may be wrong he may be right but he is allowed to have and voice his opinions.

It is a shame that Cho-bashing seems to be such a great thing to do.

Do think about this.

Live 8 concerts were free so general public was never asked to pay for anything. These concerts just asked these people to go and sign up on the Live 8 website. It is just a petition to the G8 nations pressurizing them to act and with the signatures, it means that x amount of people want you to act...

Who said these rock stars don't go Africa and help these people out, Bono was actually in Africa - http://www.ticketretriever.com/u2-africa.html
trying to solve issues.

Just like Mr. Cho Ramawamy has a right to voice his opinions, so do I.

The next time you voice your opnions, please leave your name. I am happy that there is some soul asking questions

Sudharshan,
First link doesn't work.
Thanks for the info on the LIVE-8.
I have to confess that I am not a big fan of all these Rock stars...party due to my negligence and the crowd I grew up with.

I've seen you write about a lot of concerts. Please do me a favor and list some good websites where I can listen to good songs. If you have a list ..I'd like to have them as well.!

About CHO, I respect your opinion though I beg to differ.

My liking for rock music has grow by leaps and bounds in the last few years. See if you like Floyd because many people listen to it once and dismiss it as noise but their words are powerful and they are well and truly "progressive". The music kinda vibrates inside you and if your are like it once, then you get addicted.

Opinions can differ on "Cho" but as you see I don't like him.

rock music fan!! are you on the ceiling now ;):)

Most fans are on the ceiling. :-)

Here is the funny part. I was in Chicago when Live 8 was in Philly. Once in a lifetime thingie missed huh !

Ouch that sucks, TLB

This is for a good cause. Hopefully the monies should reach the people suffering and not to some representative who puts in his pocket. I have an Eritrean (North East African country) colleague who says that most of the african countries' govt. dont care a damn thing.

I agree with you - Bono has done several good things in Africa. I think he was some kind of an honorary UN ambassador to Africa too.

The only rock music bands I listen to are U2 and Pink Floyd.

BTW, Sudarshan: I am your satbam junior who also came to ASU. ;-)
